Universal Caregiver

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ability to communicate with and relate well to the elder population.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Knowledge of proper transfer procedures and body mechanics.
Proper use of back belts, gait belts, transfer board, and use of mechanical lift equipment.
Proper operation of wet / dry vacuum and regular vacuum.
Proper operation of toilet plunger and auger.
Proper operation of carpet cleaner (carpet cleaning / shampooing machine).
General knowledge of oxygen tanks and equipment.
Basic knowledge of documentation and record keeping procedures.
Ability to read and interpret written procedures and directions.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds weight and carry 100 yards.
Ability to lift, bend, stretch, squat, stand and other movements to perform general Universal Caregiver functions and reach in confined spaces.
Ability to transfer residents with appropriate assistance (i.e. from surface to surface.
Observe residents for skin breakdown, lack of appetite, health and behavior changes, foot and toenail problems, and report these and other concerns using a ROER.
Immediately alert staff and facility management when a resident wanders inappropriately.
Perform special tasks of nursing care when delegated by the RN.
Basic computer knowledge.
Education and / or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
In addition the individual must have completed the Universal Caregiver program. This individual must be a CNA or have equivalent certification as required by the state.
Dressing : Assisting, Total, Prosthetic Devices, Tedhose. Ambulation : Assist Residents As Indicated In Service Agreement.
Emotional Support : Good Listening Skill, Non-Judgmental
Peri-Care : Cleaning
Hearing Aid : Putting In, Replacing Of Batteries, Cleaning
Perform duties as assigned per the Universal Caregiver duty roster.
Be aware of individual resident service plans and the services to be provided on a scheduled and on-call basis.
Report changes in resident conditions via the staff notes, communication book and incident reports.
Complete all tasks in Point Click Care before leaving the shift.
Answer the phone in a timely and professional manner and record messages accurately when appropriate.
Maintain confidentiality of staff, residents and company.
Attend staff meetings and in service meetings. All staff meetings are mandatory unless specifically designated by the Executive Director or Assistant Administrator
Take vital signs : BP, TEMP, PULSE, and RESPIRATION.
Maintenance and use of medical equipment
Knowledge of measures and weights : cc's, ounces, pounds, etc.
Report verbally and in writing, on individual resident’s abilities and potential changes to the service plan. This should be done through notations in the progress notes and shift notes and through verbal discussions with supervisors and care plan team members.
Assist other departments as needed to ensure a safe working environment is maintained. This would include reporting safety hazards promptly, changing light bulbs in units and easily accessible areas as needed, logging all maintenance issues and repair needs.
Preparing, cooking, and serving meals for residents by following the menu posted in the kitchen.
Assist with serving all meals by bringing residents into the dining room and give them any assistance, as needed, with their meals.
Serve drinks and food to the resident.
Assist any residents per their needs. Serve a nutritious snack for all residents throughout the day.
Clean-up following all meals including clearing dishes, loading & unloading dishwasher, wipe down tables, chair seats, arms and backs, and pick up food from floor by vacuuming / sweeping.
Pick up laundry from resident rooms; rinse out soiled laundry and dispose of dirty laundry in the appropriate laundry receptacle.
Do laundry following proper procedures.
Collect garbage from resident rooms each shift. Immediately remove incontinent supplies that are wet or soiled. Remove garbage from the kitchen & laundry room one time per shift.
Take garbage to the dumpster as needed and at least one time per shift.
Assist with daily scheduled activities. If assigned activities, request information and supplies from the Administrator.
Document resident’s participation.
Responsible for daily clean-up of resident rooms and common areas. Deep cleaning as directed on the shift duty list. Light clean-up is to include making beds, spot check room;
use extractor on incontinent accidents immediately and any other clean up as necessary.
Must be able to meet and greet guests & Families in a professional & friendly manner.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor. Such as medication passing, once taught and, documentation.
Other duties as required from time to time to ensure good continuity of service.
